Public Relations
Since I have started my postgraduate studies in PR at Southampton Solent University in October 2014, I have already learned a lot about our courses subject but I have also made many practical experiences when it came to applying the learned elements. In the course, we are taught a wide range of courses (e.g. Corporate PR, Corporate Communications but also Influences on Writing and the Media); however, especially our highly experienced lecturer, who has spent 30 years in the industry and is now sharing her knowledge with us, give us a great impression of what the world of PR has to offer us. In terms of applying our skills, our course does not only prepare us academically well but also encourages us to gain experiences with clients and companies and to prove our skills as a freelancer. Therefore, I have established my own blog to practice my storytelling- and copywriting skills, but also try to experience as many social media channels as possible to advice future clients on the best channel for their business.
Due to data protection issues, I cannot show you examples of my work I did for clients; however, you are very welcome to have a look at my blog or view the brochure I created for our PR agency “Solent All Sparks”.
PR Agency: Solent All Sparks
Part of my work within our agency “Solent All Sparks” which we founded for one of our assignments is to be the client contact, so I can probe my experience in customer-relationship-management in a different context than my parents’ entrepreneurial business. Moreover, I am responsible for all the creative outcomes within our agency (e.g. design promotional material (brochures, flyers, posters) for our business and for our client) but within our team I do also essentially contribute to a successful outcome and realisation of the campaign. In this context I contribute through strategic thinking and work in a goal- and task orientated way.
The aim of our campaign is to increase the number of Russian students as Southampton Solent University, our client is the University’s International Office. We therefore work closely together with University staff as well as students, thereby enlarging our cultural and professional background. Within our campaign, we are required to do research, plan stakeholder-orientated events and create as well as manage different social media platforms.
Apart from my University related assignments, I practice my copywriting/ storytelling/ blogging skills in my own blog, where I mainly post about Public Relations issues. I have just started blogging in October 2014, but my blog has already been nominated several times by the online Public Relations magazine Behind the Spin, who weekly nominate the best PR blog from all UK based PR students.
